The River Saone
We set off at 8.15 for an appointment at the lock, together with another boat, at 9.00 but as we arrived at the lock the lockie informed us that we would have to tie up and wait because a big hotel boat was entering the lock before us, going in the opposite direction.

A restaurant that spans the canal |

The hotel barge |

The 10m high lock drops down from the canal to the the River Saone |
The very wide and deep River Saone |
Interesting roof. There are a few, but not many, private homes alongside the river |
Above Verdun-sur-Doubs (no, not that Verdun) the river is narrower with steeper banksides |
One of the very few villages on the riverbanks |
Approaching one of the mighty locks on the Saone, 185m long and 12m wide, designed to take commercial barges |
At 17.35, 63 kms after leaving Fragnes, but only 3 locks, we tied up at the quay in Saint Jean de Losne. At last we are beginning to catch up with our itinerary after so many delays.
