24kms, 2 locks |
We set off
later than usual again today, about 10.30 and the temperature was already 15o. It was a beautiful morning and uneventful.

A garden at a lock |
|
Many of the locks have a weir alongside, this can cause turbulance when entering/leaving the lock. |
|
We have never seen this kind of duck before. Anyone know what it is? |
|
Every lock has an information board with details of stopping places and their facilities both up and down stream |
|
Approaching Chateau Thierry |
It was a short cruise today. We arrived at the Halte Nautique in Chateau Thierry at
13.15. This is also a place where you
have to pay: €5/night for the boat, and €4 for electricity, which we paid for
and Ian did whatever he needed to do with the batteries.
It was hot
this afternoon, 25o; out came the shorts, t-shirts, sun block,
sunglasses etc.
I went into
the town. This is the birth place of
Jean de la Fontaine, the writer who is famous for his many volumes of fables,
and there are statues depicting his stories scattered around the town.

The pedestrian street |
Very much a
tourist town, a famous battle took place here in 1918, with many eateries,
drinkeries, pavement cafés, etc, along the pedestrians only street.
