engine hours
Another cold
and rainy day. We left the pontoon at
10.45 between showers, with the temperature at 7.5C. I checked the AIS map and not one single
barge was moving: it is Easter Sunday and the locks are closed today. Fortunately there are no locks on our planned
route today and we could drive from the interior steering position the whole way.
We were
beginning to think we must be the only crazies when another pleasure cruiser
appeared and waved madly as we passed each other.
Apart from
that the trip was uneventful.

Bridge maintenance. We are always amazed at the complexity of the scaffolding and covers. |
|
Dark and gloomy |
|
We passed rows of inactive barges waiting to get moving again tomorrow. |
|
More crazies! |
|
We turned off the Canal de la Deule towards the mooring in Douai |
|
Friendly kids watching us watching them |
|
Narrow and tree-lined, this is the old Scarpe Moyenne River which runs through the middle of Douai |
The rain
came and went and the temperature had climbed to a fractionally less
numbing 8.5C by the time we tied up at
the “halte nautique” in Douai at 14.45.
We will stay
here for a few days with more bad weather forecast for this week, and we have
some friends arriving to spend 2 days with us on Wednesday.

Mooring is free. Water and electricity are available with a key from the Tourism Office |
