Beaumont-sur-Oise

We didn't feel much like moving on today.  This is a rather charming, small town and we suspect that we will moving into more built-up and possibly industrial areas in the next day or two.  We will leave the Oise river, moving on to the Canalised Oise, then the big wide Canal du Nord and the Grand Gabarit before we find ourselves on the River Lys in about 2 weeks.  So we decided to stay here for another night.
I went for a walk, camera in hand, in the early morning and discovered the award-winning boulangerie/patisserie was open.  What a treat that was.  When I went back with my purse a little later the queue stretched out the door, such a pity I couldn't get a photo inside.

The boulangerie

Built on a steep hill, there are many stairways connecting the streets.

This building is the Hotel de la Croissante.  It has been a lodging house since the middle ages when the sign of a crescent about the door was a sign to travellers that it was a place to find a bed and nourishment

The belfry, with a very loud carillon

I have no idea what this is
This afternoon I took a walk to see what remains of the old castle.  Much more than expected, as it was restored in the 18th century, but unfortunately there is now a parking area surrounding it.
More steps!

The view across the valley to the church and belfry

There must have been a wonderful view up and down the river before all the houses were built
