43 kms, 1
lock, 6.5 hours
After a very
successful visit to the Free Centre, where we got a Sim card with unlimited
phone calls and sms plus 100 Gb (yes, 100 Gb) of data for 19.99 per month, we
left Lille at 11.00 am. The morning started off very foggy and ended up with
hazy visibility till the sun got really high – and hot.
The canal
from Lille to Douai is part of the “grand gabarit” (large scale) network so it
is very wide and lacking in character, but not unattractive.

Lille docks, big port. |

A water feature alongside the canal |

Imaginative graphiti |
|
Some interesting old houses |
|
Only one lock today, sharing with a biggie |
|
A bad attempt of taking a pic of Ian working while I steer |
|
Wide canal, narrow bridge on a corner, make sure you are listening for approaching traffic on Channel 10 |
|
Bad pic, but two kids having god clean fun in a dinghy |
|
A fancy house froma bygone era |
|
More good graphiti |
|
The entrance to the off-shoot into the Douai porte de plaisance - amost blocked by commercials |
|
Under a low-ish bridge, no need to take down the bimini |

to the approaches to Porte de Plaisance de Douai |
We tied up
at the free moorings in Douai at 17.45.
I received sad news today
that my mother is not at all well. I
may be flying to South Africa in the next day or two so might not post any more
news for a few days.
What a great start of the day & photos once again. So sorry to hear about your Mom though.... Lots of hugs, positive thoughts, prayers her & your way...
