Courcy to Sillery

21 kms, 4 locks, 4.5 hours
Holy moly, it was minus 2.7 this morning - outside, 5 degrees inside - clear skies, no fog, no frost, no condensation.
A barge, Las Palmas, came past us going in our direction, so we decided to wait a while to let it get well ahead of us.  And just as we were taking off our lines another barge, Roxana, passed us also going in our direction.  Oh well, you can’t win them all.  We tucked in behind and prepared for a long day of waiting at locks.  However, Roxana was actually moving quite fast and didn’t hold us up at all.
Cold, but pretty

A tight squeeze

The outskirts of Reims, industrial but not unattractive
A couple of kilometres before the centre of Reims there is an Aldi supermarket right alongside the canal.  We stopped there for max 20 mintues so I could buy some fresh bread and veggies.
Aldi on the left, rowing club on the right
There is a rowing club on the opposite bank and we encountered their rowers for a good few kilometres.
Well this is different, a major highway under a building alongside a canal
There are 3 locks in the centre of Reims and here we caught up to Roxana again.
In the centre of Rwims, waiting for Roxana in a lock
The canal in Reims is very pretty
Quality time for a father and daughter
Then there is a longish stretch, 6 km, to the lock before Sillery.
As we arrive we saw a barge waiting to enter the lock, then noticed there was already a barge in the lock.  Binoculars out:  Roxana was in the lock and Las Palmas was waiting to enter, so we had a looonnng wait ahead of us.

The port de plaisance at Sillery is immediately after the lock.
The Port de Plaisance at Sillery, Njord is second from left
It is not a free marina so we went up to the capitainarie to pay our dues to find it closed.  It only opens on 1st May.  So here we are, in a lovely marina with free water and electricity. If you pay you get free showers and wifi too.  For a boat under 10m that is €8 per day.  There is an Internarche supermarket with laundrette about 5 minutes walk away, with this impressive French WW1 graveyard between.
There are 11,200 plus soldiers buried here

A "necropole" - a word to add to my vocabulary

Our neighbour -a grey and white cat, plus his minions of course
